The 2024 College Women's Softball League's first stage of preliminary games kicked off today (12/18) at the Fengxin Softball Field in Kaohsiung City. The defending champions seeking their fourth consecutive title, National Chi Nan University, which boasts several national team players, launched a powerful 20-run attack in just one inning. They ended the game early with a 20-0 lead over one of the hosts, Shu-Te University, after the top of the third inning.
The significant performance gap allowed the team's starting pitcher and ace of the Chinese Taipei team, Ko Hsia-Ai, to rest after pitching just one inning. Teammates Ma Wei, Chen Jing-Yu, and Wu Pei-Yi took over to complete the next two innings. The defending champion's suffocating offense included 15 hits, 4 walks, and 1 hit by pitch. Notably, the hits featured 5 doubles and 2 triples from Yeh Kuei-Ping. Despite the absence of Asian Games team members this year, and even though players like Chen Hsi-Yen, Yeh Kuei-Ping, Lin Ji-Yun, Deng Yu-Tzu, and Yeh Hao-Fang, who have already made their mark in corporate leagues, were present, every player from NCNU contributed to a lineup that still showed formidable strength.
Since 2020, the college women's softball tournament has been restructured into a league. This year, like last, Taiwan Normal University, Kaohsiung Normal University, National Chi Nan University, Taiwan Sport University, Shu-Te University, CTBC Business School, and Taipei City University of Science and Technology are participating. Given NCNU's strength, they are highly expected to clinch the championship title again this year.
