National Chi Nan University Launches College of Nursing and Health Welfare: Advanced Intelligent Simulation Mannequins Draw Attention

On the morning of September 8, National Chi Nan University (NCNU) held a ceremony to unveil its new College of Nursing and Health Welfare. In August of this year, NCNU, established the Department of Nursing and the Indigenous education class within the department, collaborating with Puli Christian Hospital in an industry-academic cooperative model. Amid decreasing birth rates, NCNU has gained approval from the Ministry of Education to set up the College of Nursing and Health Welfare. Puli Christian Hospital's Chairman Zhao Wen-Chong, NCNU President Wuu Dong Sing, and the top administrators of both institutions jointly unveiled the plaque, marking a new chapter in Nantou's nursing and long-term care.

In his speech at the unveiling ceremony, President Wuu Dong Sing, highlighted the core spirit of the newly established college, focusing on "holistic care," integrating the deep-rooted value of "love your neighbor as yourself " in Shuisalian's rural medical care, and the service value of Diakonia (the worldwide movement of those commitment to the vision of Christian service, action, and justice-making) from Norway. Under the guidance of these three core principles, the college aims to cultivate professional healthcare talents with qualities such as "respect, quality, service, and justice," dedicating its utmost efforts to training professionals for the elderly population and public hhealthcarein Nantou.

Professor Wu Li-Chen, the head of the Nursing Department, particularly mentioned the state-of-the-art Clinical Skills Center established by the department to provide students with immersive simulation of clinical technical operations. The center features advanced, high-fidelity, intelligent patient simulation mannequins capable of complete joint articulation to mimic real patient positioning for diverse training scenarios. Additionally, high-tech VR equipment allows students to understand complex cases in a risk-free environment, ensuring optimal responses in real work settings. With high-tech teaching tools, NCNU's nursing students are trained in excellent care techniques, preparing them to offer more professional medical and caregiving services to patients and the elderly.

The College of Nursing and Health Welfare at NCNU comprises the Department of Nursing and the Indigenous Education Class within the department. In response to regional healthcare talent needs, the college plans to continue applying to establish the "Bachelor's Degree Program in Aging Health and Long-term Care Management for Indigenous Peoples" and the "Master's Degree Program in Technology and Health Welfare for Working Professionals." Chairman Zhao Wen-Chong of Puli Christian Hospital expressed that the multiplied cooperation between NCNU and Puli Christian Hospital will lead to academic exchanges with hospitals, research institutions, and universities in countries such as Japan, South Korea, and Norway. The experiences and knowledge gained abroad will be utilized to construct a talent cultivation system for rural healthcare and long-term care, effectively addressing the shortage of care personnel in rural areas. This collaboration aims to establish NCNU's Nursing Department as a leading cradle for nursing professionals in Taiwan.
