Introduction

The College of Education cultivates talents based on the principle of "localization, specialization, and internationalization." The college has "a group of warm and professional teachers" who have jointly developed college-based courses, practical topics, problem-oriented teaching, and digital teaching to enhance teaching innovations and wholeheartedly nurture the learning community of teachers and students. The college establishes a "dynamic and healthy learning environment" and creates learning fields and activity spaces with ingenuity and enthusiasm so that teachers have a diverse teaching experience full of vitality, courage, and enthusiasm to carry out interactive exchanges between teachers and students. The faculties pursue "multiple and innovative teaching" and actively engage in local affairs that are integrated into the teaching curriculum. The college also expands international exchanges and collaborations, develops students' international vision, responds to changes in national education policies quickly, adjusts curricula to improve employment skills, and shortens the gap between knowledge and practice to meet the needs of the society.

The College of Education was founded on February 1st, 2010 and it was composed of two departments, three institutes and one research center. Aimed to cultivate excellent academic research personnel as well as school and community educators, the college offers domestic and overseas educators advance training and professional development opportunities. Its programs provides solid foundation of students research and employ stability through cooperation of cross-departments, cross-college and cross-field research, which promotes quality research but also values combination of teaching theory and practice. Because of the demands for educational professionals, College of Education will actively expands globalization, combine central counties of primary and secondary school principals, directors, and teachers' trainings and advance studies. In particular, NCNU plans for "Primary and Secondary Education Leadership Training", "Educational Human Resource Management" to cultivate educational research talents.

• Academic Strengths

During the course of studies, students in the Department of Counseling Psychology and Human Resource Development can learn the two major areas of counseling psychology, lifelong learning and human resource development, through formal courses and informal learning opportunities, which will help them become Pi-shaped self-learners and cross-disciplinary professionals in the future.

The Department was established to nurture new talents in counseling psychology and human resources through a multi-tiered curriculum based on professional and applied knowledge. With an emphasis on helping students secure employment upon graduation, the Department offers two main career paths in (1) counseling psychology and (2) human resources and lifelong learning.

The Department hopes to produce counseling and human resource professionals that promote lifelong learning and give back to society.

The Department's methodology focuses on teaching foundational knowledge during the first two years, and offering higher-level electives conducive for academic and career development for junior and senior students.

The Department offers internships and career counseling during senior year; summer apprenticeships are also available for those who wish to gain more hands-on experience in the field.

Graduates can continue to go to school, begin their professional lives (schools, social services, corporations, hospitals), or get their government-issued licenses (probation officer).

• Educational Policy and Administration

• Academic Strengths

The goal of the Department of Educational Policy and Administration is to cultivate educational administration, school administration, educational policy, and administration research talents. Students' career paths include public administrators and academic researchers. The department emphasizes the integration of innovative, practical concepts and knowledge in educational administration and plans a special course, "Educational Administration Practice," to enrich the administrative management experience. At the same time, the department encourages on-the-job training for educational and school personnel, strengthens the students' practical knowledge and skills in the regular program, and helps them achieve "career advancement."

• Department of International and Comparative Education

• Academic Strengths

The curriculum of the Department of International and Comparative Education has six major characteristics, including second language, international internships, overseas training, international volunteering, domestic and foreign visits and exchanges, and domestic cultural and educational internships. The department emphasizes the internationalization of teachers' expertise, the diversity of students , and curriculum activities. Thus, internationalization is the key feature of the department.

Foreign-language abilities are strengthened through required Business English courses and foreign-language programs. The Department currently offers two-year programs for French, German, Japanese, and Spanish, and electives for Vietnamese.

Comparative and international educational capabilities are strengthened through courses showcasing the cultures and educational systems of different countries. The Department also offers a wide range of opportunities for students to learn from private and public educational institutes through volunteer and internship programs. Since 2008, students have visited NCNU's partner schools based in Australia, India, Indonesia, Japan, New Zealand, and Vietnam.

Information-processing abilities are strengthened through courses on educational multimedia, information technology, graphic and audiovisual editing programs, computer teaching programs, online resources for comparative education, and digital animation.

Proposal-writing and course-planning capabilities are strengthened through topical courses and research programs. Since 2006, 17 NCNU students have been selected by the National Science Council to partake in its academic research programs.

Career paths include positions in the academic sector (K-12 education, cram and prep schools, after-school centers, supplementary learning, language schools), public sector (diplomacy, administration, immigration services), private sector (translation, commerce, clerical services, editing, journalism), academic research, or inbound and outbound tourism services.

In the new technological society, the Graduate Institute of Instructional Technology promotes the effective integration of technology and education to develop the ability of technology-based curriculum planning and teaching with the use of diverse teaching technologies and digital learning.

 

• Institute of Lifelong Learning and Human Resource Development

The Master's Program in Lifelong Learning and Human Resource Development aims to nurture organizational personnel, teachers, senior teachers, managers, and interdisciplinary workers to help them attain extraordinary achievements in the professional field.

 

• Master's Program of Mental Health and Consultation

• Interdisciplinary Program of Education

The Interdisciplinary Program of Education aims to cultivate cross-disciplinary social practice education and research talents. To achieve this goal, the curriculum design is student-oriented, with the professional knowledge as the core element and the locality as the field, according to the three-stage curriculum planning of exploration and calibration, knowledge application, and innovative implementation. The program assists students in studying international culture and education, the cultural and education industry, counseling, and digital learning. The curriculum is integrated with the USR plan of the College of Education to design social participation courses and action plans, hoping to cultivate educational research talents who aspire to implement cross-disciplinary social practices.
