Introduction

The College of Management of National Chi Nan University was established in 1998 and its goal is to endow students with quality education, technology literacy, business ethics, innovation, and domestic and global perspectives. The college embraces an educational concept of paying equal attention to both theory and practice, requiring a balanced development between professional training and academic research.

1995 The Graduate Institute of International Business studies was established.

The Institute of Economics was established

1996 The Graduate Institute of Information Management was established.

To meet the talent needs of domestic and foreign economic development, the College of Management actively integrates domestic and foreign industries, governments, academia, and research institutes to promote a cross-disciplinary and cross-national learning environment. The college aims to cultivate students' foresight of future trends, flexibility to cope with future changes in the social environment and amidst globalization, and the ability to propose actionable solutions (feasibility analysis), so that students can connect with the industry and international communities after graduation, continue to develop themselves, and face future challenges.

Academic Strengths

  • Aptitude testing and training: By applying the Career Personality Aptitude System (CPAS), the Department offers career counseling based on 12 common archetypes. Students can explore their interests and advantages, track market and industry trends, utilize the university's comprehensive resources, and enhance their competitiveness through aptitude and practical training.

  • Corporate management and internships: Students gain valuable exposure and hands-on experience in the work field of their choice through the corporate internship program organized by the Department and Pou Chen Corporation, one of the most successful footwear manufacturers in the world and one of the top 20 largest Taiwanese companies. The corporate internship program is the first of its kind in Taiwan.

  • EMBA mentorship program: The Department recruits students from the College of Management's EMBA program to serve as mentors to undergraduate students. Each mentor meets with ten or so students on a monthly basis to discuss corporate management, workplace attitude, and industry trends. The dynamic mentorship and bilateral dialogue help broaden the perspective of participating students and offer personalized insights on career challenges and opportunities.

Department of International Business Studies

Academic Strengths

The Department of International Business cultivates professional rising stars in international marketing and planning, international business operation and strategic management, international investment, and financial analysis. Using the 3I characteristic means of internationalization, industrialization, and integration, the department monitors industry trends and future developments and cultivates international business management professionals with the 3C characteristics of competence, commitment, and character.

The NCNU Department of International Business Studies prioritizes the learning and applications of academic theories, economic frameworks, and financial regulations through case studies and specialized courses. Students are also encouraged to take electives such as international etiquette, golfing, and ballroom dancing to acquire new skills conducive to advancing their international business careers. Further emphasis is placed on organized group activities and competitions, including the annual International Business Week, to strengthen organizational, planning, implementation, and leadership abilities.

Career Prospects

Career paths include positions in local and global banking systems, insurance companies, securities exchanges, international trade, manufacturing firms, or government agencies. Management opportunities in fields such as technology, sales and marketing, finance, accounting, project management, human resources, and investment are also available.

 

Department of Economics

Academic Strengths

The Department of Economics has an all-around program with a strong team of faculty for teaching Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, and Econometrics. The equal emphasis on research and teaching helps students to further their studies or pass public service examinations successfully. Knowledge gained from the training can be applied to various industrial fields, governments, and academia to help analyze industrial decision-making, government policy planning, and economical big data forecast.

In line with the objectives of the NCNU College of Management, the Department of Economics aims to cultivate talents with a complete and systematic knowledge of economics who can contribute to the nation's economic growth.

Working with the other colleges and departments of NCNU, the Department spearheads multidisciplinary research and international collaboration that encompasses multiple fields, economic theories, and practical applications.

With a curricular emphasis on the foundational knowledge of economics, strong foreign-language skills, and international perspective, the Department focuses on three main areas of knowledge – economic theory and research, finance, and economic policy.

Career Prospects

Career paths include positions in financial services (banking, trust funds, securities, investment), government agencies (financial and taxation agencies), foreign investment (trade, life insurance, logistics, marketing), and academia (research, education).

 

Department of Information Management

Academic Strengths

To welcome the new Information Age, the Department of Information Management first trains students to analyze data and utilize artificial intelligence so that they become much-needed data analysts and data scientists who can assist corporates in making evidence-based management decisions. Second, students are trained to have an in-depth understanding of the operation mode of the industry and various programming skills so that they can apply what they have learned to complete a practical project. The third goal is to develop students' international outlook and basic academic skills, enable students to explore the latest international academic papers in depth, and actively guide students to participate in academic conferences abroad.

Theory and application: The Department places particular emphasis on three areas – management strategy, technical innovation, and system integration, from which students can learn not only administration and leadership skills, but also research, development, and integration of information management skills and combine such knowledge with applications in other fields. Through themed training and corporate partnership, students will gain valuable real-life experience enhancing their competitiveness on the job market.

1.    Tutorship: Tutoring programs are in place for high-achieving students to mentor their fellow classmates one-on-one outside of class.

2.    Educational facilities: Personal laptops are provided for thesis writing, the computer lab is open for students all day, and the study room offers both related books and magazines as well as a quiet environment for studying.

3.    International opportunities: 15% of the Department's enrollment is made up of international students, giving rise to a high degree of diversity in the student population. Moreover, the College of Management selects one student each year for its international exchange program – this is an exclusive opportunity not made available to students of other NCNU colleges.

Career Prospects

Those who choose to pursue further studies are generally accepted by esteemed institutes in Taiwan or abroad. Those who choose employment:

1.    Have a 73% chance of finding a job as a manager or engineer at a tech company. 

2.    Have a 66% chance of receiving a base salary between NT$30,000 and NT$50,000; or a 16% chance of receiving a base salary between NT$50,000 and NT$70,000, not including yearend and performance bonuses or stipends.

Department of Banking and Finance

Academic Strengths

Under the impact of the Fintech wave, besides basic courses, analytical tools, and related courses about financial institutions, insurance, real estate, securities and derivatives markets, and corporate finance and accounting, students in the Department of Banking and Finance receive diversified training covering humanistic care, financial technology, data analysis, interdisciplinary learning, project writing, language skills, and the broadening of their international perspectives. It is hoped that students apply what they have learned to solidify their knowledge and skills and enhance their employability.

1.    The NCNU Department of Banking and Finance is known for its dedicated faulty members, all of whom hold degrees from top Taiwanese and international universities and are experts in their respective fields.

2.    Encompassing securities and derivatives markets, banking, insurance and real estate, and corporate finance and accounting, the curriculum is oriented towards building competitive and practical skills sought after by the job market.

3.    To prepare students for the future development of the financial sector, the Department devotes considerable resources towards enhancing English-language capabilities and instilling a balanced view of the global economy.

4.    To foster independent thinking and proposal writing, the Department encourages innovative research on the intersection of finance and technology. Students can also apply for research programs supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Career Prospects

Immediate Employment: Investment sector (banking, securities exchange, insurance, real estate), corporate finance, public sector (National Taxation Bureau, Central Bank, Ministry of Economic Affairs, Financial Supervisory Commission).

Academic Continuation: Many graduates choose to pursue further studies at esteemed establishments including National Taiwan University, National Chengchi University, National Chiao Tung University, National Central University, National Taipei University, National Sun Yat-sen University, University of Birmingham, and Kansai University.

Employment Rate: Department graduates enjoy a 90% employment rate by securing positions in banking, securities, insurance, accounting, and government agencies, while the other 10% choose to prepare for civil service examinations or graduate programs. The average starting salary is N$$30,000 for those who hold a bachelor's degree, and NT$38,000 for those who hold a master's degree. A projected monthly salary of NT$90,000 (including bonuses) is possible for those who were recommended by faculty members and have at least five years of work experience after graduating with a master's degree.

 

Department of Tourism, Leisure, and Hospitality Management

The Department is offered in two divisions – (1) tourism and leisure management and (2) hospitality management. The Department of Tourism, Leisure, and Hospitality Management has a close connection with the industry and focuses on developing students' professional skills. Graduates of this department are well-recognized in the industry. The faculties have excellent performance in teaching and publishing papers in international journals. The curriculum design emphasizes the integration of theory and practice. Through collaborative teaching, the teachers and students are able to develop a closer relationship with the industry, and through various industry–academia projects, students are employed immediately after graduation.

Academic Strengths

Tourism and leisure management division: The Department aims to cultivate professionals with industry knowledge and managerial competence who can think dynamically and innovatively. The curriculum is designed to equip students with professional skills that are applicable to both the workplace and further academic studies.

Hospitality management division: The Department aims to cultivate professionals for the leisure and hospitality industry through a balance of theory and application to enhance their proficiency and understanding of the world. The curriculum combines hospitality management and innovative service with entrepreneurial studies, foreign-language training, and practical courses to enhance their global perspective, organizational skills, and practical applications of theory.

Career Prospects

To meet the rapid development of the domestic tourism and leisure industry, the Department offers professional training for those who aim to work for hotels, travel agencies, health centers, bed and breakfasts, leisure farms, theme parks, and government agencies. Graduates are well-suited for positions relating to management and policy in hospitality, tourism, recreation, leisure real estate, and other innovative fields, as well as the pursuit of further academic studies.

EMBA

The NCNU EMBA Program allows students to gain new knowledge and learn to accumulate momentum, enhance their strengths, and achieve a breakthrough in the big family of elites!

The concept of promoting high-quality management education to working professionals by integrating International Business, Information Management and Finance MBA programs led to the formation of the EMBA program. Through systemized course-training, exchange and interaction between multiple disciplines, and the establishment of team cooperation, managers with abundant work experience are able to improvise and respond to the complex enterprise environment.

 

The PhD. Program in Strategy and Development of Emerging Industries

The PhD Program in the Strategy and Development of Emerging Industries integrates more than 60 strong teachers from the five departments of the College of Management, including international business, economics, information management, banking and finance, and tourism and hospitality, to create a "student-centered, problem-oriented" teaching environment. Through innovative teaching that involves in-depth interactions between teachers and students and the introduction of Stanford University's 2025 innovative teaching plan with three-stage (calibrate, elevate, activate) courses, the program helps students apply their experience and knowledge to solve cross-disciplinary and emerging industry problems and enhance businesses and partnerships.

In most universities various departments have highly interrelated fields and courses, thus, the Ministry of Education encouraged the development of "Doctoral Programs"by establishing the University Act in order to aid all universities to cultivate cross-field talents in response to the needs of the industry and society. Through highly specialized courses designed into a program and by integrating resources of related departments a comprehensive curriculum is created. This enables both the integration and improvement of teaching resources and the courses to conform to a highly specialized learning development, therefore enhancing the competitiveness of students entering the job market.

 

Master Program in Strategy and Development of Emerging Industries

With the tourism service industry as the core, the program connects emerging industries, such as cultural creativity, precision agriculture, and green energy, and provides an interdisciplinary industry–academia platform to cultivate mid- and high-level industry talents for the Taichung, Changhua, and Nantou regions. The platform cultivates interdisciplinary industry elites through industry–academia collaborations.

In the fast-changing global environment, how the government and businesses control the industry developing trend, use the industry policies to coordinate with business operating layouts, make good use of industry analyzing, strategy planning, knowledge managing and operating models innovating, helping businesses occupy the key position of the work in the global industry in order to drive the economic development of the country has become the most important point that businesses and governments of each country which are faced with the highly competitive environment in the 21st century commonly put emphasis on. Therefore, the establishment of the Master Program in Strategy and Development of Emerging Industries is expected to cultivate professional personnel of emerging industry strategy planning and operating management for businesses and the country and enhance the power of research and practice in the field of emerging industries. By participating in related research plans through taking the Master Program, students are able to have a broader global vision. Especially that Taiwan is facing the transformative development of industries, hoping that with a deeper study, students would be able to contribute what they have learned to academic research or practical business in the field of emerging industries after graduation.

Interdisciplinary Program of the College of Management

The Interdisciplinary Program integrates the courses of the College of Management, breaks the barriers of departments, and replaces the department with "majors" and "minors." Students can follow their interests and career planning to take major and minor courses and are no longer limited by the traditional or dual-degree system. Undergraduate students can study interdisciplinary courses freely, develop according to their interests, explore themselves, establish an integrated background in business management, and have more diverse and distinctive multidisciplinary learning.
